Vaping on College Campuses to Be Banned
Vaping will be banned on campus starting from 2 June, A sixth form college in Hull has announced. Wilberforce College, located on Saltshouse Road the issue of vaping become "a real problem over the past three years" according to BBC reporters.
The college introduced these new regulations as part of its strategy to decrease student vaping activities. Students as young as 16 receive education about vaping dangers at college, while the institution provides NHS services and support to help those who want to stop vaping.
Principal Colin Peaks expressed his frustration,
"We've seen more and more students turn up and vape. We want to get rid of it completely. It needs to disappear".A recent survey showed that 25% of students wanted to quit, although many did not recognise vaping as harmful as smoking. Most young people can easily buy vapes because the age limit to purchase these items is set at 18, according to Mr. Peaks. Students find magnetic appeal in vapes because of their lively flavours even though they lack knowledge about health risks.
The BBC uncovered evidence showing Hull holds the record for most confiscated illegal vapes within the Yorkshire and Humber region, which demonstrates the serious issue affecting this area.
