Freemax REXA SMART
Living up to its name, the Freemax REXA SMART packs an impressive level of intelligence. It comes loaded with advanced tools like a calculator, calendar, music player, alarm, and timer, along with a wide selection of customizable themes. The device also boasts one of the most impressive touchscreens available and a powerful 1600mAh battery for extended use.
Product Overview & Specifications
Back in 2017, Freemax made waves in the vaping world by introducing mesh coil heads — a design that has since become an industry benchmark. Now, in 2025, they’re raising the bar once again. The standout innovation in the new REXA PRO and REXA SMART devices is a pod system equipped with parallel double mesh coils. This setup places two mesh coils side by side within the same chamber, delivering enhanced performance. While a similar approach has been seen in certain disposable vapes from Fifty Bar, it’s a first for refillable systems.
But that’s just scratching the surface. Both models come packed with a host of high-end features: crisp, responsive touchscreens and a variety of smart tools, including a Bluetooth music player, calendar, alarm functions, sound effects for vaping, a timer, and detailed puff tracking. If you’re looking for gadgets with plenty of extras, these devices more than deliver — they’re easily among the most feature-rich pod vapes I’ve tested.
After putting the REXA PRO and REXA SMART through two weeks of use, my thoughts are mixed. Curious about the pros and cons? Keep reading to see where they shine and where they fall short.

Build Quality & Design
At first glance, the Freemax REXA PRO and REXA SMART are visual standouts. Their design blends elegance with a futuristic edge — the kind of device you could imagine a space traveller using at a high-end event. The bodies feature a series of flowing ridges and lines, yet manage to avoid any sharp or uncomfortable edges. In the hand, both feel solid and well-balanced, although the SMART tips the scale at around 121.8 grams, which may feel a bit hefty for some. If you plan to carry it in your pocket, make sure it’s secure.

The finishes on the two models differ noticeably. The PRO, on the other hand, sports a glossy, reflective surface. While both share nearly identical panel layouts, the overall material quality leaves mixed impressions. Up close, the panels feel more like lightweight plastic dressed up to look premium. It suits the PRO’s design well enough, but the more substantial build of the SMART deserved a finish that matched its presence.
Where both devices shine is in their display. Pod vape screens have come a long way, but Freemax pushes them even further here. Fonts are sharp and perfectly scaled, colours are vivid, and every bit of screen space is put to good use. The touch response is excellent — quick, precise, and far better than what you’d expect at this price point. If a great display is at the top of your must-have list, either of these models will exceed your expectations.
Getting started
Basic Controls
- One click – Fire the device (if button firing is enabled) or wake the display
- Three clicks – Enter wattage adjustment mode
- Four clicks – Enable or disable button firing
- Five clicks – Power the device on or off
- Hold the screen for two seconds – Change the theme
REXA PRO: Swipe down for the main menu, swipe up for music and quick settings
REXA SMART: Swipe down for the main menu, swipe up for music, swipe left for quick settings
Features & Settings
- Multiple themes and animated backgrounds
- Built-in Bluetooth music player
- Optional vaping sound effects
- Adjustable brightness, volume, and screen timeout
- Power and Smart vaping modes
- Puff tracking by hour, week, and month
- Calculator (SMART only)
- Calendar (SMART only)
- Alarm clock (SMART only)
- Timer (SMART only)
- Two menu layout styles (SMART only)
Although the lists of options might seem extensive at first, navigating these menus feels surprisingly natural after a short time. Much like using a smartphone, swiping up, down, or left (on the SMART model) brings up different menus, while swiping right steps you back one screen. There’s a lot of capability here, but the interface is far from overwhelming.
Physical Components
Each device has just three mechanical elements — a single button, an airflow control slider, and a physical touchscreen lock. All three are easy to access, well-built, and offer just the right amount of resistance. The touchscreen lock is particularly useful, preventing accidental inputs — a common frustration with touchscreen devices — with a simple switch.
Pod Design
Both included pods use a side-fill system, but with different approaches. Standard pods seal with a rubber plug, much like what you’ll find in devices such as the XLIM or ARGUS. The Duomax pods, however, use a sliding plastic cover that’s simple and effective. My only gripe is that you’ll need to remove the pod from the device before filling, as the slider remains locked when the pod is in place.
Bluetooth Speaker Function
A standout quirk of the REXA PRO and SMART is their integrated Bluetooth speaker. Pairing is straightforward: switch on Bluetooth on the device, scan from your phone, and connect — no app required. The first time you pair, the device may request access to messages, but thankfully, this isn’t necessary to proceed.
Music playback is accessible with a quick upward swipe, offering play, back, and skip controls. While the feature works well enough, the audio quality can’t match even an average smartphone speaker, making it feel more like a novelty. Plus, the inclusion of the speaker adds bulk, which slightly impacts portability.
Performance
Both kits come with one Duomax pod and one standard REXA pod. During testing, I used two of each to get a fair comparison.
0.6-ohm Duomax Pod – Featuring parallel double mesh coils, this design is a big win for Freemax. I’ve enjoyed similar setups in Fifty Bar devices, but here the performance feels even better. This isn’t just marketing hype — Duomax delivers genuinely impressive results. Whether paired with a 70VG liquid for RDL or a 50/50 blend for MTL, the flavor is rich and well-defined, and the airflow is silky smooth. Coil life is also remarkable; my first pod handled 34 mL before showing any decline in performance. Honestly, it’s a shame the kit only includes one of these, because I’d happily take two.
That said, the pod isn’t flawless. I experienced leaking with both samples — one instance was significant, while the other was minimal and occurred after the first refill. The 2 mL capacity also runs out quickly when you’re using dual coils. On top of that, checking your e-liquid level can be tricky due to the smoked plastic, large coil housing, and lack of a proper viewing window.
0.8-ohm Standard REXA Pod – Compared to the Duomax, this pod is far simpler, and the performance reflects that. I tested it with the same 50/50, 12 mg liquid I used for my XROS 5 review, and the difference was clear. It delivers a serviceable vape — not bad, but nothing that stands out. Admittedly, I’ve never been a fan of 0.8-ohm pods, so some of this comes down to personal taste. Still, it felt a bit like eating a good cake that’s missing its frosting — enjoyable, but lacking that extra spark.
Battery life and charging
REXA PRO – While Freemax rates the PRO’s battery at 1300mAh, real-world performance tells a different story. On a full charge, I averaged around 5 mL of e-liquid before needing to recharge. Using a USB multimeter, I measured an actual usable capacity of 857mAh. It’s normal for devices to fall short of the stated capacity, but this gap is larger than usual — ideally, you’d expect closer to 80% of the rated figure.

Charging from 3% to 100% takes roughly 40 minutes. I say 3% instead of zero because the device won’t let you fully drain the battery; it automatically stops firing and displays a low-battery warning at that point. This could be a firmware limitation on my review unit, but I can’t confirm if it’s present across all models.
REXA SMART – The larger SMART model houses a 1600mAh battery and performed much better in testing. My measurements showed a usable capacity of 1377mAh, with between 7.5 and 8 mL of e-liquid per charge. A full recharge takes about an hour — not the fastest, but reasonable for its size. Like the PRO, it also shuts down before hitting zero, cutting off at around 4% battery remaining.
Pros and Cons
Pros

- Feature set feels excessive, depending on user preference
Final Verdict
The Freemax REXA PRO and REXA SMART are ambitious devices that push the boundaries of what a pod vape can offer. The Duomax pods are the real highlight here, delivering some of the best flavor in this category, backed by smooth airflow and solid coil life. Add in the sharp, responsive touchscreen and the well-executed filling system, and you have a setup that’s genuinely enjoyable to use.
That said, these devices aren’t without their flaws. The PRO’s battery performance doesn’t live up to its advertised rating, and both models suffer from premature battery cutoff. The SMART, while more capable, is noticeably heavy, and the panel materials don’t feel as premium as they look. The feature set, while impressive on paper, may feel excessive for vapers who prefer a straightforward experience.
If you’re the type of user who appreciates innovation, customization, and doesn’t mind a few quirks in exchange for excellent flavor, either of these kits could be a great fit. Between the two, the SMART offers better battery life and a more refined finish, but the PRO’s smaller form factor might appeal to those who value portability.
Bottom line: Freemax’s REXA series delivers exceptional flavor and tech-driven features, but it’s best suited for vapers who enjoy exploring advanced functions rather than those seeking a simple, no-frills device.
